Working at KPMG-JESS in Jamaica isn’t your typical 9-to-5 experience. It’s a blend of international prestige, corporate discipline, and surprisingly, remote flexibility. Before I joined, I had no idea just how tech-forward, structured, and layered this Big 4 affiliate really was. From a panel interview to paperless onboarding, digital learning, and only five in-office days per month, the journey has been eye-opening.
KPMG (Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler).
If you’re curious about what it’s like behind the scenes at one of the most recognizable names in global accounting beyond the suits and spreadsheets, this post is for you.

KPMG-JESS in Jamaica
In Jamaica, KPMG-JESS (Jamaica Extended Support Services) has been steadily growing and hiring for roles that go way beyond the traditional profession services. I know this first-hand because I’ve been part of the team and want to give you some insights just in case you are interested. I remember months ago, before I applied, how I searched the length and breath of the internet in the context of Jamaica and was met with little to no information about the experience on the inside.
So, recognizing how incredibly helpful a post like this could have been, here’s something to work with.
Beyond the Professional Services at KPMG Jamaica
You’ll always find accountants and auditors at Big 4s, but that’s not the full picture. At KPMG-JESS Jamaica, the opportunities extend to:
- Administrative support
- Compliance and Risk
- Information Technology
- People and Culture (Human Resources)
- Finance and payroll support
- Law affiliated roles (contract, regulatory, risk management etc.)
That means, if your degree or experience is in business, IT (information technology), law, or related fields, you could actually be a top candidate. These positions keep the engine running so that the client-facing teams in tax, advisory, audit etc. can deliver world class service.
Hybrid Work at KPMG-JESS Jamaica

The work model is hybrid but mostly remote. For some teams, the office requirement is as little as one time per month! For others, up to five times per month. Employee contracts vary, but generally, there’s a strong emphasis on flexibility.
This setup is a huge plus is work-life balance is something you crave. Although, this comes with its own set of challenges. More on that here.

Technology and Data Security at a Big 4
KPMG-JESS is big on technology and artificial intelligence. From the moment you apply (on line assessment), to the interview (online) to onboarding, you are required to spend considerable time interacting online.
Onboarding is typically introduction to the standards, the team you will be on, tour of the physical space for when you are in office etc. In addition, you are provided with a company laptop and charger, headset, even a computer bag, mouse and monitor in some cases among others.
Security of data is a top priority. Because much of the work is done remotely, employees are constantly reminded about the physical and digital precautions: shutting down laptops, never leaving passwords in plain sight, handling client information responsibly etc.
Workplace Culture and Engagement
Now for the tradeoffs. Working in a hybrid, tech-heavy environment means you often don’t know your colleagues very well. You might never meet many of the people who work at the firm.
Even within your own team, it can take a while to build relationships. The in-office-days help, but not as much as you’d hope.
That said, KPMG does host inter and intra department engagement activities. These activities can even be planned by you if you volunteer on your team for a particular quarter. These opportunities provide much needed reprieve from the computer and solitude and encourages connection with others.
US Influence on Work at KPMG-JESS
Many of the clients are US based. The workflow then, for teams supporting this audience is heavily influenced by US culture and schedules. That means, busy seasons match the US accounting and tax cycle and teams that serve US clients often get US holidays off (a nice perk). Not all holidays though, mostly Independence Day (4th of July).
So, while you are based in Jamaica, your day-to-day rhythm often feels aligned to what’s happening abroad.
A Day in the Life at a Big 4 (Remotely)
Most of the workday revolves around the computer. Tasks range from attending virtual meetings (sometimes many!), logging attendance, completing timesheets to submit monthly, messaging teammates on Microsoft Teams (never personal phones) and even giving and receiving shoutouts for good work. And of course, conducting the work of your process area.
The structure keeps everything organized, but it can feel rigid and mundane at times. It is efficient but also a little impersonal. I suppose that’s where each employee’s priorities and growing needs come in.
