It’s a terrible thing to be goal oriented and growth disoriented! That’s a calamity many face today, without even realizing it. I too, was goal wise – and growth foolish…
Goal Wise…
Until, I paused to reflect on my growth journey and allowed growth to catch up with me During this reflection I assessed my passions, my skills, my goals and the growth I wanted to derive from them. I acknowledged my passion for growth. Seeing people grow personally and professionally – unlocking their potentials makes me proud. Contributing to their growth, I felt, was my way of paying it forward.
Then, I reviewed my skills: good writing and speaking skills. I knew what my goal was from early out. It is to reach people globally through my writings and verbal encounters. Why? To encourage them to believe in self, to think positively about their potential and to keep rooting for growth. Good goal right? I think so too.
Growth Foolish …
However, I was growth foolish. You too, may be prancing around with the most spectacular goals there can be. And that’s okay. You must have goals. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be a need for a plan and you certainly wouldn’t be concerned with growth.
Nonetheless, your goals without the proper plans and actions for growth – are simply just goals. As a result, you risk your potential to grow.
I started blogging as a spare time activity to express random thoughts and exercise my writing skills. That blog was titled: ladyjusticegottipped (Lady Justice Got Tipped). It was on the Blogger platform and it didn’t provide the necessary tools to match my goal for a global audience – even though it had that capacity.
Intentional Growth
During my reflection, I realized there was a lot I didn’t know, which I needed to know – in order to actualize this goal. So, I set off to learn! I scoured the internet during my spare time, reading contents on effective blogging, signing up for free courses, following through with the courses – then ultimately, implementing what I learned.
That was GROWTH! Intentional growth. What intentional action have you carried out recently that aligns with your goals?
From my intentional learning, I realized I had to do a tradeoff. The Law of Tradeoffs in The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John Maxwell states: “You have to give up to go up.” If you haven’t read my review of The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth you can do so HERE. The Law of Tradeoffs is assessed in part three.
“You have to give up to go up.” This doesn’t mean quitting and refusing to grow. Basically, it is giving up something for something else that will take you to the next level on your growth journey. In my case, I gave up Lady Justice Got Tipped. Although I loved it and had it for about 2 years, it was time to trade. I saw it as an opportunity for growth.
As a result, I invested time, resources and heart into officially launching Rooting For Growth on my birthday! June 28, 2021! It is the best birthday gift to date!
Frankly, Rooting For Growth is still a work in progress as I continue to learn, grow and help others on their journey as they root for growth.
I share this to get you thinking. In what areas of your life are you goal wise and growth foolish? What goals do you have that need action now?
Imagine wanting a sleek car, without the knowledge nor license to drive.
Imagine the goal of home ownership with no savings, no communication with a lending agency, nor even actionable discussions with other home owners.
Your goals are great. But that alone won’t be enough.
Start rooting for growth today!
