The Truth About Comfort Zones and Why You Shouldn’t Dwell There

a fearful woman having claustrophobia in a cardboard box

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Neale Donald Walsch

“You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to loose sight of the shore.”

Unknown

Have you ever wondered what life is like on the other side of your fear for the unknown? Have you ever dreamt of overcoming the paralysis that seemingly grips onto you – when you consider taking a bold move?

Fortunately, you’re not the only one.

Unfortunately this is a sure way to lead an unfulfilling life.

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that’s all.”

Oscar Wilde

Comfort Zone – Assess Yourself

When was the last time you did a self assessment? You know, one where you intentionally introspect about who you are and what you have been telling yourself.

Have you been an enabler? Telling yourself its okay to neglect your dreams, aspirations and even neglect challenging your fears?

Have you been a harsh critic? Putting yourself down and withholding due graces from yourself in times of failure, uncertainty and adversities?

Have you been existing? Walking on eggshells and swimming down stream – inching to the next day, unfocused, lacking zeal, following blindly the code of life set out before you by others and the norms?

Is this all there is of you?

Ditch the Comfort Zones

Why not be compassionate? Holding yourself to a high standard and giving yourself permission to live – originally and unapologetically?

Why not live? Evict yourself from comfort zones and go instead in search of growth conducive ventures. Feal the fear. Stare into space as you think of the uncertainty. Fail forward. Fall seven times. Stand up eight. Loose sight of the harbour. Live boldly. Live Unapologetically. Live authentically. Be original. Craft now, for yourself a whole new chapter of your life.

Life is not perfect.

It will never be.

You just have to make the very best of it and you have to open your heart to what the world can show you; and sometimes it’s terrifying and sometimes it’s incredibly beautiful and I’ll take both.

Comfort Zones Camouflage – Re-oil your Cycle

Comfort zones are good at camouflaging as growth! The moment you step out of one – and believe that growth has been completed, is the very moment you begin to get comfortable all over again. Languishing in the disguised comfort zone and justifying it as a ‘new place’ in your growth journey.

Growth requires constant budding and pruning. Watering and re-potting. Growth requires clipping and shedding. Uprooting and even burying. Growth requires daylight and nighttime. Wintering and Springing. An ever constant cycle of change. A cycle though repetitive – is never quite the same.

It’s time you got up from there. Whether a physical place, a limiting belief, a cap on your capabilities or even succumbing to preconceived notions about you.
