What is a Blog?
Simply put, a blog is a webpage or website concerned mostly with written information and is operated by an individual or organization. This webpage/website is usually updated quite often with writings the blogger (s) creates.
What one writes about is totally up to them.
However, it is always ideal to find a niche for your content.
Let’s talk Niche
“Niche” is primarily concerned with the topics you blog about and what blogging category they fall under. In finding your niche, you secure an understanding of what you will blog about.
Similarly, you will have a clear picture of who your target audience will be. Identifying and establishing your niche also helps people to find your content and stay in your community.
Nonetheless, finding your niche can still be a general idea.
Consequently, in the blogging world, you are advised to focus on topics/areas of blogging that you love, are knowledgeable about, can comfortably bring points across on and makes you stand out as a blogger where that area is concerned.
In essence, you niche down.
Unquestionably, there are millions of pre existing bloggers in the world. Chances are, any topic you can think of is already populated by a plethora of bloggers.
I do not say that to scare nor daunt you – in fact, it is to get your creative juices flowing. What unique and creative ideas will you bring to blogging and the area (s) of choice?
Think about it, then use your extra charm to get your audience growing. It may be your writing style, how you market your content, how you engage with your audience or simply, what you offer and the quality content you produce.
As for me, I am passionate about growth. Particularly, the personal and professional growth of people.
Therefore, my blog allows me to help people globally on their personal and professional growth journey. Because I love to see people growing and actualizing their full potential, it never feels like work when I am creating these content.
I have also incorporated blogging tips to my website, as I believe there are plenty persons like yourself who want to experience growth, where blogging is concerned.

Examples of Blogging Niches
- Personal Growth
- Professional Growth
- Fashion
- Personal Finance
- Blogging!
- Lifestyle
- Food
- Travel
These are just a few examples of blogging niches. As you can see, they are still very general. So in niching down you identify exactly what you want to focus on.
For instance, if you choose to blog about Lifestyle – you could niche down and blog about elegant lifestyle and other topics surrounding elegance.
Similarly, blogging about personal finance may mean you can niche down and talk about ways people can make money online or save money by living more frugally.
The sky is the limit!
Now: How to start your successful Blog
Now that you have a bit more background on blogging, let’s get you started.
Starting a blog is not a walk over. Especially if you intend to keep it for the long haul and eventually turn in into your business!
Firstly, your blog will need a place to live. This means that you will need a website. And your website too will need a home. That’s where webhosting comes in.
I use Bluehost because it is user friendly, comes with a great website builder (and templates to get you started) and it has a 24/7 support chat!
Imagine that! I remember, when I just purchased my webhosting from Bluehost – I got a FREE domain name Rooting For Growth with Fiona DaCosta and there were people to answer my queries EVERY step of the way through their live chat support. Even at 2:am in the mornings! As I said, 24/7 support.
Back to finding a home for your blog:
Let me break it down for you.
Before I started this blog, I used to blog on Blogger during my spare time (I didn’t even niche down). Just random posts about things I felt like exercising my writing skills and advocacy on. Blogger is a free platform and did not match up to the growth I wanted to achieve. Keep reading, you will see why.
When your blogging platform is on a free platform – nobody takes you very seriously. It isn’t professional. It isn’t safe. There is little room for growth and you definitely will be missing out on monetizing your site (if that is of interest to you).
But why is this so?
Look at it this way, purchasing webhosting affords you a professional domain name (the name of your website). So, your domain name doesn’t show up merged with random numbers that tend to look unpleasant. With a professional domain name, you can create a trusted brand around your blog and website.
Additionally, a professional website ensures your space on the internet is secured. Hackers will have a hard time tampering with your site because your hosting provider ensures your site is safe.
To top that off, you have the opportunity to grow and expand! Who wouldn’t want to make money blogging? Especially if it is something you love!
There are plenty ways to monetize your website through blogging.
With a professional website, you basically pass the test when your site is scanned for compliance to start monetizing.
Yes, companies scan your site to ensure it is secured. With a free platform, you will get rejected.
Affordable … Just $2.95 per month!
Plus, when you sign up here, you get a FREE domain name! They offer three plan options that will match whichever budget you are working with. Feel free to contact me at fiona@rootingforgrowth.com if you have any issues signing up. I will be able to guide you based on my experiences with the platform.
Congratulations!
You are now the proud owner of your professional website!
You have now set yourself up for success!
Think about it, there are plenty of people waiting to find your blog and become loyal readers and subscribers. There are plenty of companies waiting to do business with you now that your site is secured and professional.
Above all, I am proud of you! Let me know when you’ve started so I can subscribe!
That won’t be all nonetheless, your blog will need constant updates and and traffic driving mechanisms.
